Talaash Association’s Safe Home doors are open day & night, 365 days in year for the victims of Trafficking in Persons, domestic violence, underprivileged and/or extremely abusive situations.

It is a child friendly environment where residents can play, get educated while preparing to be integrated citizens.

While fighting against Trafficking in persons, the Association has rescued 87 of trafficked girls during 2013-2015. The stories we have heard that these girls are often exposed to isolation, fear and other forms of physical and mental torture and ill-treatment. They face extreme psychological stress, ranging from trauma depressions and shame to severe psychiatric disorders as well as drug abuse and suicide. Emotional stress is usually accompanied by constant fear of arrest. Stigmatization by the society stops the victims from returning home and therefor they chose to stay in this hazardous environment. In addition, child prostitutes are at high risk of becoming infected with sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) and to transmit them to others through drug abuse and sexual contact. Pregnancy and forced abortions under miserable and brutal conditions are another common problem, girls involved in prostitution and pornography are facing. According to this, trafficking in persons results in additional serious human rights violation.

Bengaluru is still behind in providing psychosocial support to the victims of Trafficking in Persons, torture, sexual abuse and ill-treatment. The provision is hampered by a lack of understanding on the processes and the existing associated stigmata. So in addition to preventing people from becoming victims of human trafficking in the first place, it’s also crucial for those victims to receive proper support to heal their agony and start new lives.

On considering the situation and in order to provide holistic and comprehensive support to the victims of Trafficking in Persons, Talaash Association has designed and developed a project titled “Shanti- A safe home” where they will receive safe shelter, alternative care and supportive services to return them in normal life.
